Untitled History of the human condition #3 Review
Writer – Michael Gatti
Artist – Tyler Carpenter
Publisher – Max Ham productions
Issue three is an intense ride starting during the American
Civil war and ending in Nazi Germany. This is Michael’s best issue of untitled
history.
Writing
Michael has given this issue a lot of thought in terms of character
development and motivations. Adalwolf has some impressive character development
as Michael give the reader a better understanding of Adalwolf’s motives for
fighting. There is some nice building of friendship in this issue as like
previous issues Adalwolf is given friends that give Michael the opportunity to explore
the lighter and more sensitive side to the character.
The story and dialogue is well written as there is a time
jump however, the story progresses naturally developing into something that is
both fun and serious. Michael is self-aware of the story being told and this
4ht wall breaking adds some comic relief to the dark nature of the story.
Michael seems to have finally realised his audience as this
story is for the older reader and sets the tone Untitled History been trying to
get.

Art
Tyler’s art in this issue is impressive as Tyler knows how
to use tones of grey to enhance his work. This works best in the backgrounds as
the texture adds perspective to the art and separates the characters from the
setting.
The action in this comic is fast and well centred adding the
energy to Michael’s writing. Tyler’s art adds another layer to this story that
makes this such an interesting read. As you are not reading a comic or a
picture book but a blend of both that works.
Overall
This is the best issue as the writing and art have found their
rhythm and the comedic and four wall segments don’t feel out of place like in
previous issues. If you are not reading this comic you should as it is a fun
little read.

Writing 4/5
Overall 4.5/5
